Spirits of the wild take over LR Zoo

Tim and Annie Quillin backed away from “Fluffy,” the Chilean rose hair tarantula, as if he’d clamp down with those oversized fangs and inject tissue-deadening poison. Of course, he could, and that’s why docent Tony Bello wouldn’t hand him over.
“Fluffy” was just one of a few compelling guests at the Little Rock Zoo’s annual spring Wild Wines of the World fundraiser May 15.
There was an owl, an Australian bearded lizard, and a rather intimidating bald eagle named “Lynn.” This spurred some talk of organizing a Facebook campaign for next year to bring out “Mary,” the 10,000-pound Asian elephant who, at 59, is in elephant years about the same age as Betty White.
