WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Vasi, a 3-year-old border collie, sprinted through the stubble of a corn field just east of McConnell Air Force Base, her eyes squarely set on a large flock of Canada geese.

The geese soared away, heading farther east to look for a quieter feast.

At least that’s what Lauren Caister, Vasi’s handler, hoped as the two patrolled McConnell’s five-square-mile perimeter.

“What we don’t want is for them to fly back toward the base,” Caister said. “We want to get them out of the flight pattern.” (more…)

domino“Hi! My foster friends are calling me Domino; I was found wandering and hungry a block off of Main Street in Little Rock. I am a male border collie, about 1 year old and weigh 37 pounds. I am current on my shots and happy to report I am heartworm free as well! I am on flea/tick and heartworm prevention and scheduled to be neutered. I currently live with three big dogs I love to play with. I have not been introduced to cat friends as of yet. I am learning my house-training skills and getting to know about walking on a leash. I am looking for a home with some running room and maybe a dog friend or two. I am very sweet and love to have my belly rubbed. Please consider taking me home!!”

Domino was a guest at Kathy Webb’s Birthday party on October 25th. We found out that he loves everyone and is great with kids!

McCLATCHY NEWSPAPERS

LEXINGTON, Ky. — In the same way it has never occurred to you that your cat can run the vacuum, it probably has never occurred to you that your dog can dance — dance with you, in fact.

And yet here, in the gleaming expanse of Uptown Hounds near South Broadway, is a goldish 3-year-old border collie named Hayley running through moves to music, weaving through her owner’s legs on cue, spinning, strutting on her hind legs and finishing on her back, belly bared and with one leg poking dramatically through the air, a border collie ready for a Liza Minnelli-style “Cabaret” turn. Shelters critical of perspective adopters

THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Katie Popovich recently accompanied her boyfriend to a Chicago animal shelter in search of a dog. When a beagle-border collie mix immediately nuzzled against them, they were smitten.

But the 22-year-olds received a considerably chillier response from the human behind the counter. “It seemed like we were instantly thrown into this category that we were just kids and not responsible,” she said, adding that they are now talking with breeders. (more…)

Wendall is a male, tricolor terrier mix puppy that was found running through traffic on Main Street in downtown North Little Rock.

Had he not been picked up, his outcome would not have been so happy. He is about 3 months old.

He resides with 3 cats and 2 dogs. He tries to be the "big" dog but is really a scaredy cat. He is very well-behaved for a puppy but does love to run around and play with others. He loves to nap in a lap and sleeps in a crate at night.

He is in potty training. He does great in a secure fence with other dogs around. He is very loyal, is learning to walk on a leash and is always a couple steps behind you.

He looks like the dog in the movie "Because of Winn Dixie." The dog is a Picardy Shepard, so Wendall may be a a rare, little street treasure.

He is up-to-date on shots and will be neutered.
