THE SEATTLE TIMES

Some day this spring, a black bear is going to lumber out of Washington’s Cascade foothills in search of food.

The hungry bear is going to wander into someone’s backyard, hunting for a garbage can with a flimsy lid.

An anxious homeowner is going to call the state wildlife office.

And Mishka, the state’s first wildlife service dog, is going to go to work. (more…)

JOHN KELLY

THE WASHINGTON POST

WASHINGTON — “Is your dog friendly?” you ask as we draw closer to each other on the path, our respective dogs’ leashes in hand.

How am I supposed to answer that? Yes, Charlie is friendly — really, he’s a very sweet dog — but how can I know your interpretation of the word “friendly”? Some people might construe energetic humping as  extremely friendly. (more…)

THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

Katie Popovich recently accompanied her boyfriend to a Chicago animal shelter in search of a dog. When a beagle-border collie mix immediately nuzzled against them, they were smitten.

But the 22-year-olds received a considerably chillier response from the human behind the counter. “It seemed like we were instantly thrown into this category that we were just kids and not responsible,” she said, adding that they are now talking with breeders. (more…)

  • Adopt a Pet

Wendall is a male, tricolor terrier mix puppy that was found running through traffic on Main Street in downtown North Little Rock.

Had he not been picked up, his outcome would not have been so happy. He is about 3 months old.

He resides with 3 cats and 2 dogs. He tries to be the "big" dog but is really a scaredy cat. He is very well-behaved for a puppy but does love to run around and play with others. He loves to nap in a lap and sleeps in a crate at night.

He is in potty training. He does great in a secure fence with other dogs around. He is very loyal, is learning to walk on a leash and is always a couple steps behind you.

He looks like the dog in the movie "Because of Winn Dixie." The dog is a Picardy Shepard, so Wendall may be a a rare, little street treasure.

He is up-to-date on shots and will be neutered.
